As children, our parents tell us to the do the scariest thing in the world: follow our dreams, pursue our passions, and trust our instincts. Unfortunately, we all have a fear of failure, no matter how dramatic or subtle. Life is terrifying in taking less-traveled paths; everyone (even the wild) wants security, especially financially. However, artists risk everything for the sake of their art. Like others who share my passion, as an artist, I’ve fallen submissive to the whims of my heart.
Art serves as my catharsis and soothes my nerves. Art is the freest form of expression, but up until two years ago, I had settled on a well-paying “job” that would keep my boat financially floating, but with my discovery (or epiphany) of how much art appeals to my happiness, I have yet to look back. The feeling of connecting with others on such a deep, internal level is indescribable, and so I create art for the connection with others, as well as for the journey of self-realization. In creating my pieces, I adore messier materials (such as paint, oil pastels, and plaster) since it makes me feel more personally indulged in building a piece. Artwork is not an organized process for myself personally; I have a tendency to find beauty in disarray. My muse speaks to me, and I take her words closely to heart. Due to this, I’ve found the most sublime of contentment possible.
My artwork, as derived from my brain, is the essence of my personality, emotions, and mind at the time of its creation. It’s pure dissection of my being. I find myself inspired by foreign cultures and faiths, as well as worldly, controversial subjects. Analytical thought processes are natural for me, and my sincere consideration of present news and issues among others plays a large portion into my artwork, and why I create it. My work is important in that it serves as my sanctuary, and allows for me to travel away from the stresses and pressure of life, as well as convey my thoughts and beliefs to others (as I’ve always loved to share my opinions with others). I don’t create artwork to please others, but rather, for my personal enlightenment. Releasing my paints with paint, charcoal, and plaster allows for me to breathe and continue forward. Ultimately, expression is my safe haven that I’m not ever going to be prepared to sacrifice.
